Last month's MTA power problem that caused nearly half the subway lines to go offline for over an hour - stranding hundreds of riders - may have been due to human error.
At first, the MTA thought a power surge from Con Edison might’ve triggered nearly every numbered line, as well as the L to lose connection to the signals that keep trains running at a safe distance.
Governor Hochul called for an outside review by two engineering firms.
Their findings now reveal that someone may have accidentally pressed an important button at the Rail Control Center, shutting down the power distribution.
How could this button be so easily pushed? Both reports say its plastic cover was missing.
The interim Chairman of the MTA says it will install more power cables, for redundancy, and eventually a more modern system to better monitor the power.
