I was at the 9/11 memorial at Eagle Rock, I saw that the sun was right behind it so I took a pic. Taken in early summer 2014.

This summer I went on a 97 mile hike in the Scottish Highlands using a trail called the West Highland Way. We took 7 days to complete the hike, and this photo was taken on the 3rd day. My friend and I had spent the morning and afternoon scrambling through the rocky coast along Loch Lomond, and it had been hours since we had seen solid ground or civilization. This cabin sat at the end of miles of rocks and boulders, right where the land turned to marshes and moor.

I saw these guys near the Gowanus Canal. I asked if I could snap the picture. They asked for money! I gave them $1 for each leg. Then I heard about the Cell Phone Picture Contest on the radio moments later. So here it is.

It was an overcast Midtown day this spring, and for some reason there were lots of birds in the air. I stood for over 15 minutes trying to get a cool shot. Just as I was about to leave, a bird flew in the frame and I snapped the pic at the perfect moment. The caption (instagram, natch) came later: "Aspire higher."

My wife and I wandered off a side street in Dublin, Ireland, and found this colorful street-art display in a dead-end alley.

I took this photo after my girlfriend completed her first ever 5K on Roosevelt Island. We had a euphoric ride across the river on the tram, both of us filled with pride; it was a perfect fall day and the city seemed ready to receive us with open arms.

I was passing by a park or a playground when I noticed this guy doing handstands against a handball wall and it reminded me of how much I enjoy seeing people doing things alone, especially in New York City. Finding time to spend with one's self can sometimes be so difficult, for so many reasons. I really respected that he was out on a sunny day, just being with himself in that moment. The truth is that I have no idea what was going on inside his mind, but I projected my own feelings about solitude and urban life onto him, my subject.
