They're harder to change than I would have thought.
I cycle from nights of less sleep, then one or two longer nights when I'm tired and can fall asleep earlier ... Now I know exactly how many hours exist in this cycle. I also learned that I sleep soundly all night if I don't drink an afternoon espresso.
:
I try to get more nights of 7+ hours sleep. For me that means getting in earlier... (Not always easy!!)
That stress, working too late, and going to bed too late all may delay or disrupt my sleep.
I must add that even though I've been tracking for five weeks, I was very sick during the first week, which made me sleep worse than normal. Shortly after that, I had Spring Break, during which I slept better than normal. So I've only had about two and a half weeks to really judge.
:
I have tried to get to bed earlier and also to allow my mind to calm down more in preparation for sleeping. It's been very good to have a concrete way to see what's going on, and over time.
I am more aware of my patterns and how it affects the way I eat. It has changed when and what I eat on days following nights of shorter sleep time.
:
i'm a very efficient sleeper. I get a little less sleep than I thought mainly due to waking up/getting up earlier (before 6:00) more often than I realized
:
yes - my habits of eating following nights of less sleep than typical
My sleep habits are terrible! In large part, due to my job. I've already been diagnosed with shift work sleep disorder, but before this study, I didn't realize how much it was contributing to my sleep habits, and my lack of sleep.
:
I try to get more sleep of the days that I can, around my work schedule.
More of an attempt to go to bed at the same time every night, to get adequate sleep.
:
Awareness: 1) I get one hour less sleep than I thought. 2) I have increased awareness that I would like to make the time I want to go to bed sacred. (Note: I have not yet committed to the time as sacred, but just have awareness that I would like to get there). 3) it usually takes me zero minutes to fall asleep, which makes me think I should go to bed earlier
:
Trying to go to sleep at the same time everyday to get adequate sleep. Also, seeing a stronger awareness during the day that sleep depravation affects so many things in my day: attitude, capability, mood, confidence/can do attitude. This is totally amazing that there is this correlation!!!
At the very least, I'm a little more conscious now of what time I'm going to bed at night (and how long it takes me to drag myself out of bed in the morning.)
:
I haven't noticed any connection between my sleep patterns and my caffeine intake/exercise. I think if I'm awake at night, tossing and turning, it's because of something else - usually stress or anxiety.
:
I'm not sure - probably I've scaled back my caffeine intake a little bit, but that's probably for general health reasons.
