I wake up more often in the night than I thought. I also sleep less than I thought.

Not yet.

Yes, I'm getting more sleep

I think I am sleeping more simply because I am more aware of my sleep due to tracking it daily.
What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
I realized I was sleeping a little less than I thought was.
Have you tried to change any of your behavior as a result of this study? :
I haven't consciously tried to change my sleep patterns (they are not too bad in the first place), but I think they have improved.

I've realized that my bedtime and wakeup times are more consistent than I thought they were.
Have you tried to change any of your behavior as a result of this study? :
I've been more aware of spending less time in bed before turning out the lights and thinking about the impact of naps on my nighttime sleep.

yes, i don't use blue light before bed. i also think about taking shower/bath before bed. I'm in general much much more aware.

How your sleep has changed :
Well... yes and no. I've been getting less sleep but I also noticed how I have been up a bit longer (when I wake up in the middle of the night as some nights it takes a bit longer to fall back to sleep).
What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
I'm wake longer in the middle of the night then it seems.
Have you tried to change any of your behavior as a result of this study? :
No. I planned on going to sleep a little earlier but I've actually went to sleep a little later then usual.

I have only been sleeping >4 hours when I take sedatives, which I rotate to avoid dependence. This is my baseline or many years. It appears to be permanent.
What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
That I'm stuck and sleep hygiene doesn't make a difference.

My wife can't sleep with the TV off. I can't sleep with it on. So, I moved to another room. Now she's feeling insulted, but I'm feeling much more rested.
What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
I'm not so different than a lot of other people.

That I undersleep during the week and make up for it during weekends.

Yes. I am making a conscious effort to get more sleep during the week.

What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
I sleep less than I thought I did! My assumptions about my bed time and wake time were wrong. I was surprised to find out that I got to bed later than I thought. I also found out that my sleep average is similar to the rest of the participants in the study.
Have you tried to change any of your behavior as a result of this study? :
I try to keep a consistent wake up time and am trying to get closer to 8 hours each night!

They're absolutely all over the place.

I've been trying to settle down to go to bed a bit earlier than I have been, which, in my case, is making sure I put my phone down and turn my laptop off at the very least half an hour before I go to bed.

How your sleep has changed :
More aware of when I go to bed, get up and how soundly I sleep. So I check back with myself to figure out why.
What did you learn about your sleep patterns once you started tracking them? :
I seem to get an average of 6 hours sleep. Not enough!
Have you tried to change any of your behavior as a result of this study? :
Yes. I now sleep with a sleep mask, even when its totally dark. Seems to help me sleep through the night better.

I am conscious of my target "bedtime" and try to get into bed by that time.

That I have pretty stable sleep patterns compared with lots of others.
