1 month or more

:

Yes, I'm getting more sleep

:

1. I do not have good sleep hygiene (i.e., those tips that sleep experts recommend (like only use bed for sleep & sex; go to another place when you wake up in the middle of the night, etc)2. JUST the mere act of recording the actual data of my sleep patterns has improved my sleep.
3. I've learned that if I don't turn on the radio or decide to read some more every time I wake up in the middle of the night that I have more sleep and improved sleep(often, not all the time)!
4.I find I have at least one longer segment of sleep most nights(instead of 1/2 to 1 hour in between wakeups there are now segments of up to 4 hours straight/non-restless sleep. (I've been told if you have a little sleep but it's quality sleep (i.e., uninterrupted sleep)that that is considered a 'better' sleep than many restless hours in bed(referred to as restful or restorative sleep(I think you all are calling it sleep efficiency).
5. I've had one night of an 8 hour sleep w/ no awakenings!
6. I've also noticed I often awake at 3,4,or 5AM and am really awake for the day - not a happy day when having gone to sleep at midnight or 1AM.
To summarize: Just keeping this record has improved my sleep. I am committed to trying new things (like turning out the lights earlier and using a fan to mask sounds). My sleep efficiency has improved & I'm less sad now that I'm more aware. Awareness matters - drawing your attention to something has the power to change it.

:

Yes, as mentioned above:
Turn lights out earlier
Turn fan on for background noise
Do not turn the radio on each time I awake during the night.
Do not start to read again each time I wake up throughout the night.

Thank you for all your help!!!!!!!!!
