We set our alarm clocks for 5 am, packed our headlamps and headed towards the Delaware River. There's a fire road that leads up to "The Knob," which falls off into steep rock faces, and overlooks New Jersey. We arrived about an hour before sunrise and ran(literally) across the ridge, trying to find the best spot to be before the sun started to peak through. We found a beautiful overlook, took some photos with our DSLRs, and continued to stroll back to the fire road. On a whim, we stopped at another part of the cliffs, I threw my legs over, and sat, as we experienced one of the most stunning sunrises I've ever witnessed. It was about 5 minutes of golden sunlight casting through the mist that came off the Delaware. I think we were literally screaming at points because we couldn't believe what we were witnessing. The sun eventually rose high enough and the sunrise turned to daylight.
As we packed up our things, we ran into two very large men who were just arriving at the ridge, covered in sweat, cameras in hand. Honestly, we didn't know what to tell them. It would have been cruel to show them our own photos of what they just missed. So we kept them to ourselves, and wished them luck.
