Village Community Boathouse at Pier 40 on Houston Street offers free rowing trips every Tuesday and Thursday (5:30 - dusk) and longer trips on Sundays at noon.
A fantastic way to see the Hudson river, the upper harbor and the hidden shore points and parks in both New York and New Jersey.
