Dance Theater of Harlem Company's New York Season 2014

Wednesday, April 23, 2014 through Sunday, April 27, 2014

WNYC is a media partner for the Dance Theater of Harlem’s 45th Anniversary New York Season. April 23 through 27 At Jazz at Lincoln Center.

In this second season of the newly formed Dance Theatre of Harlem Company, they return to the Rose Theater with an eclectic mix of new and familiar works that highlight the range and diversity of this legendary company. The six performances (two programs and a Family Matinee) offer three New York premieres including: past-carry-forward, a dramatized look by choreographers/DTH alums Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman-Davis at the Great Migration as told through the eyes of the people who experienced the Harlem Renaissance, a segregated military and the civil rights of their day and what that means as African Americans make their way into the future of a new America. (please click here for a website detailing the piece by dramaturge Tommy DeFrantz).

Robert Garland’s Gloria and a revived production of his New Bach, Ulysses Dove ’s sublime Dancing on the Front Porch of Heaven and a re-imagined production of Pas de Dix, originally staged for DTH by Frederick Franklin, with newly orchestrated music and newly designed costumes are also programmed.
