Think it's your last chance to grab a cheap pretzel, kebob or hot dog before heading into the Guggenheim museum? Think again. On Tuesday, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission denied the Solomon R. Guggenheim museum's application to install a permanent teardrop-shaped food kiosk made of stainless steel and resin. The commission ruled that the museum's proposed kiosk would not fit with Frank Lloyd Wright's 1950s spirals and cantilevers in the museum's entry area.

For years, some of New York's most prestigious art museums have gotten heat for not featuring enough female artists. A searing 2007 report by Jerry Saltz in New York Magazine revealed that women often made up less than 15 percent of a museum's permanent collection on display. Since then, there has been a move to make up for this imbalance. In fact, this week, a number of local arts institutions have female-heavy rosters.

Musicians from New York and New Jersey represented their home states at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) in Los Angeles on Sunday night. One of the highlights of the awards ceremony was the outfit on the Upper West Side's Lady Gaga, which was made entirely of meat. Gaga became the first female solo artist to receive two nominations for Video of the Year when both "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" were nominated. She also made history by getting 13 VMA nominations in the past year, more than any other artist.
