Public Advocate Bill de Blasio’s first TV ad for mayor started running this morning, and it prominently features his mixed-race family. De Blasio doesn’t say a word in the commercial. Instead, he leaves the talking to his 15 year-old son, Dante, whose giant afro has made him a star on the campaign trail.

The commercial also prominently features de Blasio at home with his African American wife, Chirlane McCray.

In the latest Quinnipiac poll, de Blasio trailed Anthony Weiner, Quinn, and Bill Thompson among black voters likely to vote in the September 10 primary.

Each year, the NYPD takes part in a National Night Out Against Crime. Local 
precincts organize activities to share anti-crime information, and free food and family activities. WNYC stopped by the Grand Concourse and 181street in the Bronx for the gathering held by the 46th precinct to hear what brought people out.
Each year, NYPD precincts take part in a National Night Out Against Crime. One of them was the 46th precinct in the Bronx. Hundreds came out to the Grand Concourse and 181st Street to get the latest anti-crime information, eat free food, participate in family activities and rub elbows with neighborhood officers in a low-stress situation.

His family credits him with popularizing skateboarding in the section of Coney Island where he lived.
