Councilwoman Katz Responds to Criticism of Campaign Contributions

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Councilwoman Melinda Katz is responding to critics who claim her candidacy for city comptroller is tainted, because she received $700,000 in contributions from real estate interests. Katz spoke on the Brian Lehrer Show today and said she's won major concessions from developers, including tens of thousands of units of affordable housing.

KATZ: The interesting part about it is these are the same guys i am going toe to toe with, that I am fighting with and they seem to think i have the toughness and the wherewithall to lead the city out of a bad economy.

Katz is running for comptroller against fellow Council members John Liu, David Weprin, and David Yassky. All four Democratic candidates will face off in a live debate tomorrow night at 7, and you can hear it on AM 820 WNYC and wnyc.org.
