Antibalas at Brooklyn Bowl
Tickets: $20. 21+. Shows at 8 pm.

The horn-heavy Afrobeat orchestra known as Antibalas first made its reputation with hard-hitting, politically charged music in the style of the Nigerian bandleader Fela Kuti. The 12-piece plus ensemble also explores all kinds of funk, Afro-Cuban music, loping rhythms of Ethiogroove, Caribbean dance, punk rock, and extra-planetary cosmic jazz.

They served as the house band and musical directors for the Broadway show Fela! But they’ve continued to expand their musical horizons, playing on the hit song "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars and in certain songs, like "Pirata", echoing the sounds of Ethiopian music. Antibalas celebrates their 20th Anniversary with a two-night home stand at Brooklyn Bowl, Friday and Saturday nights, March 14-15.
