Six Years Later, the Fallout from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Filmmakers Marilyn Weiner and Hal Weiner, talk about “Dispatches from the Gulf” which looks at the effects of the Deepwater Horizon explosion 6 years later.

Six years ago today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico near the Mississippi River Delta. Oil gushed for 87 days, leaking an estimated 210 million gallons into the ocean. Marilyn Weiner and Hal Weiner, directors and producers of the PBS series “Journey to the Planet Earth," talk about their new film “Dispatches from the Gulf,” which looks at the environmental fallout from the disasterSteve Murawski, a fisheries biologist and marine ecologist who is featured in the documentary, joins the conversation. 

To coincide with the 6th anniversary of the spill, a sneak peek screening of "Dispatches From The Gulf" will be livestreamed on Wednesday, April 20th here at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET.
