Christone "Kingfish" Ingram at The Cutting Room
Tickets: $30-$35. Show at 8 pm.
Christone "Kingfish" Ingram grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, not far from the crossroads where blues legend Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul to the devil. A student of the Delta's musical history, he is acutely aware of the musicians and the music that emerged from his corner of the world. "I do think I have an old soul, that I've been here before," he says. "I'm moving forward with one foot in the past" (Alligator Records.)
This year, at the ripe old age of 20, "Kingfish", as everyone calls him, released his debut album, and he didn’t have to wait long to attract attention from some older blues greats – Buddy Guy and Keb Mo both appear on the album, which is largely an electric blues affair. But left to his own devices, Kingfish is a stellar acoustic player as well. "Kingfish" plays with his band on Thurs., Sept. 5, at The Cutting Room.
