Nov. 1. 7:30PM. $34.
New Orleans-based Courtney Bryan is a Rome Prize-winning composer and pianist who draws heavily on the sounds of gospel music and jazz in her works. She is now a newly minted “genius” after being awarded one of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowships - the so-called "Genius Grant". Her newest piece, "Dreaming (Freedom Sounds)", receives its premiere on Nov. 1, here in New York by ICE, the International Contemporary Ensemble, as part of their series called Composing While Black. The concert also features new work by famed member of Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) Adegoke Steve Colson, commissioned by the Fromm Music Foundation. That's all at 7:30PM on Nov. 1 at Kaufman Music Center.
