Singer and multi-instrumentalist Eleanor Friedberger first gained acclaim as half of the indie rock duo The Fiery Furnaces, the group she formed in 2000 with her brother Matthew. She became a muse of sorts to Britt Daniels of the band Spoon and Alex Kapranos of the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand – both ended up writing songs aobut her. But since 2011, she’s been carving out space for her own songs – often keenly observed character studies that have an almost classic rock sound. Eleanor Friedberger performs tomorrow night at City Vineyard.  

She just announced her new record, Rebound, out May 4 via Frenchkiss. Here's that first single:
