Mr. Grass discusses the role of fantasy and symbolism in his writings, especially regarding the first book of his "Danzig Trilogy," "The Tin Drum," and the inspiration behind that novel's main character, Oskar Matzerath. He also discusses his life prior to his recent success, and also shares his opinions about New York City.
