50 years ago, in the Peruvian Amazon, a group of brothers and their dad formed a band, and accidentally started a musical revolution. Los Wembler's de Iquitos were listening to 60s surf rock and psychedelia, but they just couldn’t shake the rhythms and scales of Amazonian music. The resulting mix came to be known as chicha, a style that has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years. And now, all five brothers of Los Wembler's are back too, with a new album and an international tour. Los Wembler's de Iquitos celebrate their 50th anniversary with a show Monday night, Sept. 23, at Le Poisson Rouge.
