Schneiderman: ‘No-ish’ to 2018 Gov Bid

As New York State's Attorney General makes headlines, Eric Schneiderman's political future is more of a toss-up.

This week, he moved to cut off fantasy gaming sites – FanDuel and DraftKings – in New York. Last week, he announced an investigation into whether Exxon misled shareholders about climate change.

These high profile cases have people wondering about Schneiderman's ambitions. Asked at a Politico Playbook luncheon on Thursday if he'd rule out a run for governor in 2018, he was coy.

“I'm not running for governor in 2018 now,” said Schneiderman.

As elected leaders do, he praised his current gig.

“I love this job. It’s an amazing job. And I’m enjoying doing it. I may have another job someday, but I’m certainly not thinking of switching jobs that soon,” he said.

Politico's Mike Allen asked if that was a “no-ish?”

“I guess. Yeah,” Schneiderman stammered. “’Ish’ is not one of my…I'm a big fan of…I'm uh…I'm very progressive and I support innovation, but I'm a little bit of a traditionalist in terms of the English language, so yeah, ish.”
