Wagner's Ring Cycle at The Metropolitan Opera
Tickets: $20 (Standing Room) and up. Performance start times vary.
Before Game of Thrones, before Lord of the Rings, there was the original sprawling, ambitious, world-creating epic known as The Ring of the Nibelungs (Der Ring des Nibelungen). Or simply, "The Ring". This set of four evening-length operas by Richard Wagner features deities and dwarves, dragons and destruction. It’s a 19th century edifice that requires 21st century buzzwords, words like “immersive” and “binge-watch.” The Met is presenting another complete cycle, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung, featuring Robert LePage’s hi-tech but controversial stage and a heroic cast, beginning Monday, April 29.
Wagner’s Ring Cycle operas begin again, Monday, April 29, at the Metropolitan Opera. Most dates are sold out, but standing room tickets go on sale at 10 am, the day of each performance.
