Brooklyn DA to Drop Bell Protest Charges

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The Brooklyn District Attorney is prepared to drop charges against 28 people who were arrested during protests against the acquittals of police officers in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell.

DA Charles Hynes says that if the protesters stay out of trouble the charges will be dismissed in six months.

The protesters are charged with disorderly conduct for blocking traffic or refusing orders to disperse during citywide demonstrations last month. A spokeswoman for the Manhattan DA says charges are still pending against 196 people arrested in connection with the protests in that borough.
