"Checking In" On Standing Rock

On the Media | Nov 4, 2016

This week, close to 1.5 million Facebook users checked into the same place: the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in Cannon Ball, ND, where protesters have been camping out for months to challenge construction of the North Dakota Access Pipeline. It was a tactic that aimed to misdirect law enforcement, but it had another effect: attracting mainstream media to a story and a location that have been mostly overlooked.

First, Bob speaks with Kandi Mossett, an organizer with the Indigenous Environmental Network, about conditions at the camp and what it has meant to get more media attention.

Then, he speaks with Winona LaDuke, long-time environmental and indigenous rights activist and executive director of Honor the Earth, about what comes next for the fight against the pipeline -- and the bigger issues at stake.
