Elina Duni was born in Albania but grew up in Switzerland, where there is a sizable Albanian and Kosovar population. Even though Duni grew up studying classical piano and then fell in love with jazz, she was never far from the sounds of traditional Albanian folk song. Over the past decade, she has developed a distinctive and personal take on Balkan music, using what looks like a jazz ensemble to often haunting effect.
