Gig Alert: San Fermin at Merkin Hall
Tickets: $25, 7:30PM. Part of Ecstatic Music Festival. Festival Passes, $135
With its tightly woven vocals, its brass harmonies, and its shifting textures, there’s something almost classical in the music of San Fermin. The New York band is led by Ellis Ludwig Leone, and he is in fact a composer who knows his way around classical instrumentation. Which is a good thing, because his new project is a collaboration between San Fermin and the contemporary chamber music group known as The Now Ensemble. This one-time collaboration also happens to be part of the New Sounds Live series/Ecstatic Music Festival partnership, and the resulting new music will be performed tonight at Merkin Concert Hall.
