Yemen Blues at Symphony Space
Tickets: $30. Show at 7:30 pm.

The recent history of Yemen has been a tragic tale of division, warfare, and emigration. This has obscured the fact that Yemen has a rich musical legacy – actually, two of them. Yemeni Jews, most now living in Israel, claim to have the oldest uninterrupted tradition of Jewish singing in the world. And Yemen’s Arab community has proven to be resilient too. Since 2010, the Yemeni-Jewish singer Ravid Kahalani has been leading a band he calls Yemen Blues. It includes Arab Muslim, African, and American blues in its cosmopolitan sound. The group Yemen Blues plays Thursday night, Feb. 28, at Symphony Space.
