I investigated in my building the difference between a balcony and a terrace. I got my answer after seeing these central air conditioning units. They are allowed on terraces cause there's no overhanging that can cause vibration. Who knew?

Walking along the boardwalk at Coney Island I stopped to take this picture. For me, it illustrates what I love best about New York, the contrasts, the juxtapositions and the coexistence that I find in less supply in other places I've been.

During the summer my friend Dale busted this Yoga move on my roof over the Empire State building.

This is a spot I normally drive past on the Cross Island Parkway. The morning I took the shot I had just picked up my son after his 5:30 a.m. swim practice; we sat on the rocks to eat breakfast and enjoy this brilliant view of Little Neck Bay with Fort Totten on the left and the Great Neck shoreline on the right.

Taken on Thanksgiving Day at a friends' house. The two ladies are dancers, and were in a deep discussion about an unknown subject, since I was across the room and could not hear them. I love the photo because they look so engrossed and oblivious of their surroundings.

I have been taking many images of this church from a street here in Park Slope, Brooklyn and the activity and seasons that surrounds it. I am entering this image because I was inordinately attracted to the pointed triangulation of the steeple as a focal point and pace of humanity below. I like how the moment captures the darker mood of daily life and the beauty of the sun setting behind the church.

A slice of Manhattan Bridge, layered over a patch of cumulus clouds taken in from Brooklyn side of East River. It was a warm April afternoon and we were out foraging for food. Bridge was alive; with thunderous sounds of repair and with men that walked on its tight rope.

my husband and i visited vietnam and cambodia this summer. virtually every place name had associations for us even
many years after the "American war", as they call it. this photo is in color, but early morning fog showed these limestone islands in shades of grey.
halong bay is a unesco world heritage site in the gulf of tonkin. peaceful scene, with fishing boats, leaping fish, and lots of memories.

On a coastal South Carolina river while anchor for the night I looked up and saw one of the most striking sunsets of my life ----- so like everyone is doing today I grabbed my cel phone.

The beautiful Coronado Bridge in San Diego (CA). We were driving on the bridge and saw the sunset on the Bay. In the right place at the right time. I really like the warm colors of the sunset, the crimson sky, the view of San Diego bay

I took this in Ft. Tryon Park as I was walking north along the walkway that overlooks the Hudson, where it approaches the Heather Garden area. Although I took it two or three years ago I can't delete it, it so encapsulates winter!

I have a flower garden. I think a garden is hope...especially in New York. This is the first Rose of Sharon bloom of the summer. I didn't think it was going to bloom...

A photo of the Brooklyn Pride Weekend edition of Mister Sunday. Mister Sunday was an outdoor daytime party that happened on the banks of the Gowanus Canal. The property where the party happened has been taken over developers, but it was magical while it lasted.

Taken at the exhibit of the multi-ton 'stone humans' by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone at Rockefeller Center this year.
Standing at the base of one of these 17 ton, 12 foot high figures and shooting up I got this interesting juxtaposition of the rough stone against the smooth limestone all beneath the blue sky.
Also gives a new feeling to the buildings moniker '30 Rock'.

The photo was taken on the pier at St Kilda beach, Melbourne, Australia. I took it because I thought that the reflection of the city skyline in the water with the boats made a great artistic scene. What I like about it is that the reflective pattern of the clouds in the water was not all that apparent when I took the photo but just seem to magically crop up in the photo.

I took this photo of the setting sun recently. It was either an unusually warm evening or the night right before a heavy snow storm. I was very surprised to capture as much detail and colors that I did. It was taken with an iPhone 5S

Taken from the car on Route 30 in Roxbury NY. Mid-December 2013. Such a calm and beautiful picture. Just snapped out the window as we drove down the road.

This is a photo taken at Middlebury College on my way to class. It's easy in college to forget to get off of the metaphorical treadmill of classes, meetings and various other obligations. It's nice to take those moments to pause and recognize the beauty of what's around you and that the stress of work is trivial in context of the beautiful nature around you. I took this because I wanted to remember to take those moments and remind myself to take some perspective.

This was taken on Dec 17 while on a family trip to Iceland. Standing above Gullfoss waterfall, we took in the wintery scene with the sound of the falls crashing below. There we also spread ashes of a family friend who passed away last year and who had always wanted to visit Iceland.

This woman was sitting on my corner, 54th and 7th.
No woman could pass by this woman without offering a way to document, somehow witness and ponder the enormity of such despair.
It moves to me silence. It moves me to stunned silence.
