My photo, "The Beachcomber" was taken in Central Park during August.
The worker picking up litter among the sunbathing women caught my attention.
I like this photo because it goes beyond the literal to a figurative level of associations.
In the photo Central park is like a beach on which a beachcomber is working.
He is invisible.
My photo, "Man with a horn" ws taken on the corner of t 7th Avenue and 10th Street.
When I asked a young carrying a base tuba he said "Sure" and held the tuba up in
front of his face, suggesting to me another photo that goes beyond the literal image.
This photo could also could be called "Loud Mouth"!

This was taken on a trip to revisit my alma mater, California State University, Long Beach. I like the blue expanse of sky and the fortuitous moment of the plane flying over the peak of the Walter pyramid.

Taken while descending from the summit of Mount Golden Ears, in B.C, Canada. I took it because I was enthralled with the beauty of the ship like peaks sailing upon the sea of clouds.

This was taken at Loch Arbour Beach in NJ, May 2013. It was one of the first beach days before the rush of beach goers hit the scene. We locals love this little beach town. Sandy hit us hard but as you can see it's lovely here. I love the colors in the shot, as well as the clouds in the sky.

This was taken on a recent trip to California. I like that it captures a glimpse of the old and new eastern span of the Bay Bridge in a single frame.

I was in the back seat of the car, on a summer road trip. I thought this biker looked like Pippi Longstocking all grown up, heading out on a road trip of her own. I believe we're on the Pennsylvania Turnpike heading westward. I was happy to catch the shot.

I was visiting Istanbul with my family in August. We were in a neighborhood outside the center of town looking for an ancient cistern. The streets were narrow and the neighborhood was a bit shabby but full of life. As we were leaving, this pick-up truck roared down the narrow street, blasting music, with the little girl in the front singing through a portable microphone. We were told that this was a Kurdish tradition. I made me reflect on world attitudes to child rearing. It happened so quickly. I was lucky to grab this photo with my iPhone 4.

Uncle Mort was quite an eccentric. I went to his house this past summer to pay a Shiva call and got such a kick out of his 'telephone book'.

My sister Fran and I made these ornaments and gave them away to our office mates. We baked the shapes (made with cookie cutters) using flour, water and salt, made the hair by pushing the dough through a strainer, then decorated each one with poster paint, glitter, beads, googlie eyes- whatever we had around the house! We sang, laughed, ate and had SO MUCH FUN. Don't forget the make the hole for the string before baking!!

June 26th, the day the Supreme Court struck down DOMA, my girlfriend and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary. We walked past Stonewall, where Edie Windsor was speaking and hundreds of people were gathered and stopped in front of the bar to take our photo. When we looked at the photo we'd taken of ourselves, we realized we'd also captured two men directly behind us at the same time having the same moment. The real news was it was also their anniversary, and they were celebrating 8 years that day! It was the most beautiful accidental photobomb ever!

This is my husband, Barry, insisting on driving my brand new birthday present-- a BMW 128 convertible-- WITH THE TOP DOWN at 11pm last night, Dec. 20. In a "what the hell?" spirit, we drove from the Upper WEst Side and down Broadway through Times Square, reaching it just as the theaters were letting out. Crowds of out-of-towners began to flood the sidewalks; they gawked at us just like we were just another Times Sq spectacle, cheering us and giving us the thumbs up. "Those crazy New Yorkers!" they
must've thought. But actually, we were just a married couple about to turn 60, acting like a couple of teenagers again.

I went to Ile de la Madelaine in Quebec to see seal pups. They are only around for about 3 weeks during the year. We had to helicopter out to an ice floe. So cute!

A cold afternoon, my last semester at the City College of New York, walking through campus, I looked up.. bam! the perfect branch silhouette with a cute little squirrel.. How could I have missed the chance to capture it? :)

This is a maple tree next to the path by the Gapstow Bridge at the north end of the Pond in Central Park. Unlike many other maple varieties, this tree takes longer (every year!) to reach its full fall colour. Lovely to walk under that curtain of leaves.

I took this photo back in April. I posted it on the Audubon Society's Facebook page and people seemed to like it--the recurring theme in the commens was that people liked seeing the wild bird next to the reflection of the urban landscape. The Pond at the southern end of Central Park is a peaceful refuge for me, at least first thing in the morning. A beautiful, quiet place where egrets and herons will spend some time looking for fish and posing for photos. :-)

While sweeping my driveway in Brooklyn, NY I was surprised to see this praying mantis. I liked the composition of the brick wall with the mantis against the white garage door.

I'm an administrator at NYU and frequently walk in Washington Square looking for interesting images. The blooming flower caught my eye with Washington Square Arch in the background caught my eye. For extra credit name the red building in the background...

On our way to New York. Beautiful morning sunrise :) My best pictures are always on the road..

This is the Christo de la Misericordia in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Being laid off in February allowed me to travel. But lingering stress, noon-time sun, and an almost vertical assent had me on the verge of heat exhaustion. Lying down to gather my strength, the statue appeared like a vision, with the sun glowing powerfully behind his outstretched hand. It was magical.

This exemplifies why I love NYC-- and why one must always have a camera handy. I was eating with a friend at an Indian restaurant on Broadway @100th and saw this man disguised as a tree. How could I not take the photo? I shot it with both my phone and my camera.
