I like pictures that don't give everything away. The nominal subject is the Freedom Tower, but what really interested me were the relationships between light and dark and color. I think of this as an internal cityscape.

I've always been entranced by light coming through glazed branches. Our ancient dogwood tree last weekend.

I have a fascination with couples. I took this photo as I was walking through Central Park - coming across the beautiful bride stopped me in my tracks. I loved capturing their intimate moment and unique body language.

Fog and rain in TriBeCa as day settles into night. I love the way the few bright lights play against the darkening scene.

Between 1966 and 1967 there were a few amazing conversations between Morton Feldman and John Cage broadcast on WBAI.
At one point they complain about the new transistor radios that the kids are bringing to the beach and all the music that is now heard everywhere in public.
Cage says (to summarize) instead of complaining, he wrote a piece for not one, but 12 radios...
I've been photographing free newspaper boxes for many years (usually with a regular digital camera, but now also with a new iPhone).
The boxes are ugly, clutter the sidewalk and public space, etc. etc. but if one looks closely there is beauty and sometimes funny, political, social information there...
Photos made in Manhattan, Chelsea and Midtown South...
Thanks

I took it at a restaurant supply store on
Shanghai Street in Hong Kong. Two cats were chasing one another when one leapt into the top of a stack of pots. I like the photo because (surprise) it turned out to be somewhat artistic.
Also, it speaks to the nature of cats.
I call it "Waiting to Be Served".

I was standing on the platform in Woodside Queens on my way home. At the moment, the sun is setting with beautiful pink reflecting on top the city. (Sorry for my previous posting. I failed to attach the photo).

I was standing on the platform in Woodside Queens on my way back home. And at the moment, the sun is setting with beautiful pink reflecting on top the city.

This was taken on the R line subway station in Elmhurst Queens. The photo was cropped in lens.

This photo depicts icicles in the courtyard of the Cloisters in northern Manhattan. The Cloisters always offers a striking refuge from the hectic city around it. Here, the contrast is on full display: the elegant, permanent columns of the museum form a backdrop for the icicles, which are parallel but sharp and fleeting.
Disclaimer: this photo was taken December 30, 2012. Since that was too late for last year's contest, I'm submitting it now.

the sun sets between the new world trade center and the empire state building. taken from LIC.

I went to listen to the director and some cast members from Romeo and Juliet on Broadway in conversation with Tourè at The Schomburg Center. Orlando Bloom's pensive look here is one of my favorites pics from the event.

I took this photo in January at the South Street Seaport. I took it because of the contrast between the sign and the stores around it. I like it because it evokes a can do spirit not squelched by Super Storm Sandy.

Deer Whisperer - We make a serious and consistent attempt to scare the deer from our yard. A visiting grandchild took a different approach. She slowly walked towards the deer, their eyes locked. She stopped, stared, and as she backed up, the deer followed.

Clown nose left in back of cab: the hilarity and forlornness of living in NYC summed up in a single image.

Found on The Highline, this "Vine Wave" is my 2nd submission. Finding these accidental landscapes, I also shot what really looks like a Monet on a wall in Chelsea which was my 1st submission.
Back to this image, I also shot this wall spot in the fall when it was a "Leaf Wave" as there were still leaves on it a few months back.

Grand Central Station at 9:05 am and as I was rushing to work I turned around to see the station filled with light. I saw others, like me, going somewhere... some in a hurry and some not.

This is another favorite from my series "Couples in the Subway" of couples I have been photographing in the subway this year on my iPhone. I love this one because of their matching red and blue clothing and how it coordinates with the red, white and blue background of the station. I love how their hair is so similar in color and texture. Last but certainly not least, I think their stance with their heads touching suggests a heart shape. Such a beautiful and random moment I happened upon on my daily route. Still amazed at how it all came together so quickly. They were right in front of me and it was so perfect.
