I snapped this at Japan's Shibuya Station, one of the world's most famous intersections. I saw this brief encounter between the little school girls and the monk as multiple "intersections" that speak for themselves.

Self portrait in hammock in Aug 2013 time in Berkshires. I was working during most of my stay there, but this was a rare moment of "just chilling." I liked being able to do that, and to capture "the evidence."

A COMET APPROACHING A DISTANT STAR? The detail of a photo taken in the morning after the last snowstorm. Cropped to highlight the detail. No photos-shopping.

A jewel near home: Heading to LaGuardia on a night flight from San Antonio. Stunningly clear night with many photo ops. I got several from the plane's window that night, but this one (yes, I cropped it) had simple elegance that I love and want to share.

Taken on Amsterdam Avenue and 77th Street near a firehouse a few days before Christmas. It was great to see that the men and woman tat risk their lives can be of good cheer. The red truck, snow and wreath were perfect.

I took this photo in the reflection of my car window in August 2013 at an overlook on the highway to Montauk. It was such a brilliant sunset that within two minutes, there were 10 cars gathered at the overlook, and kids and adults alike were standing on the wooden fence in front of the cars to get a better view. I like this photo even better than my photos of the sunset itself - the silhouette of the kid tight-rope walking on the wooden fence embodies the carefree days of summer.

My daughters and I went to Blue Spirit retreat center on the Nosara peninsula in Costa Rica last January. One of my daughters spent the week taking hundreds of photos. I captured this one if her with my iPhone 5.

I took this picture in January 2013 on a sunny day after a snowfall. Half of the Central Park Reservoir was frozen and covered in snow, so I wanted to capture the long shadows of the trees reaching across the ice. I didn't even notice the shadow of the couple standing by the reservoir until after I'd taken the photo, but I love their presence at the edge of the frame.

These chairs were left in an area off the service road of Riverside Drive, which is mostly bushes and ground cover. It's not very accessible, so whoever left them there was very deliberate in disposing of them. I have no idea why anyone would leave them as they were fairly nice chairs and would have immediately found a home if left on the street. Was the owner hiding them for some reason? I'll never know, as they were gone the following day.

I took this photo December 10th as I hiked down the South Kaibab Trail to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It was late afternoon and the Colorado River and canyon walls shimmered in the setting sun.

With my iphone, I took this, I think, on the #6. What I like about this photo is that it seems to capture a working homeless guy, whose belongings include tools for his trade (brooms) and a keepsake (stuffed animal).
I also think this shows one man's determination to survive in NYC.

This is Argyle Lake in Babylon (Long Island, not the country) I usually ride my bike through this area and take a picture almost every day. It was just a beautiful fall moment

14th Street can be a flurry of activity: express trains and local trains, transfers to the L, and proximity to Chelsea and the Highline make it a hub for motion. Waiting for the train after work one day I noticed the stillness present on the platform across from me. Trains swept by, but even their fleeting presence measured minimally against the quiet calm of these to-board-a-train passengers. I like this photo because it represents the city that never sleeps in its entirety--it is a diverse community of people, places and things, and even in a scene of transit you can find moments of calm and stillness.

I was walking around SoHo one day after a rainstorm in the month of July. Puddles fascinate me because the reflection always reveals an image different than how our eyes typically read the world. As I meandered around the cobblestone streets looking "in" puddles, I was struck by the reflection in this image: there was color, a city, life. I remember lingering for awhile near the puddle, waiting for cars and passersby to pass. One girl even remarked, "Nice shot," as a I crouched low, aiming for the right balance of building to puddle to street.
