I took this photo from my office the week after daylight savings changed and the new Freedom Tower was declared the tallest building in the country. I work in the Dept of Psychiatry at Interfaith Medical Center in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The hospital filed for bankruptcy exactly one year ago, and we've been told that we're closing any day now for 6 months. It has been a long and stressful year for us. And even though everybody talks about LICH, nobody talks about Interfaith.
I took this photo because as I was working on my desk, I looked up and couldn't believe my eyes: There was this spectacular sunset! The colors literally took my breath away. And, there, in the distance (right hand side) was the sign of our freedom and hope. I don't know how much longer I'll have this job and this amazing view of my beloved city, but that moment reminded me that even when darkness is looming and eventually comes, there is still so much beauty around us.
