Dr. Sol Tax was an anthropologist whose work among Native Americans led him to a new concept in anthropology.
Sol Tax (October 30, 1907—January 4, 1995) was born and raised in Milwaukee and obtained his Ph. D. from the University of Chicago, where he taught from 1944 until his retirement. During his research with the Fox (Mesquakie) and Sauk peoples he argued for further analyzing the presence of researchers as an influential factor in anthropological studies. This led him to champion "action anthropology" whereby researched cultures are helped in achieving their goals.
