Public Advocate Bill de Blasio’s first TV ad for mayor started running this morning, and it prominently features his mixed-race family. De Blasio doesn’t say a word in the commercial. Instead, he leaves the talking to his 15 year-old son, Dante, whose giant afro has made him a star on the campaign trail.

The commercial also prominently features de Blasio at home with his African American wife, Chirlane McCray.

In the latest Quinnipiac poll, de Blasio trailed Anthony Weiner, Quinn, and Bill Thompson among black voters likely to vote in the September 10 primary.
