#4565, Reimagined, Remixed, and Recomposed

Hear re-imaginings, remixes, and re-compositions of existing works by Lyra Pramuk and Glenn Copeland, along with reworks of much older music by Vivaldi, Bach, and William Byrd.

Listen to music by Berlin-based composer and vocalist Lyra Pramuk sourced from her record, Fountain, which sounds “like Roomful of Teeth on Autotune" (still the best description we've heard, and that is with thanks to sound designer and technical guru, Jeremy Bloom) which has been reworked by US-born, Berlin-based Colin Self, whose multi-disciplinary work encompasses performance, choreography, sculpture, and music. In their rework of Pramuk’s piece “Witness,” the vocal phrases are processed into choral harmonies using Self’s own countertenor, all coupled with rich sub-bassy club beats. There’s also Pramuk’s “New Moon” as reworked by L.A. 's afro-futurist fantasy harpist/vocalist/composer Nailah Hunter. Then listen to New York-based ambient musician Ana Roxanne’s re-imagining of “Old Melody” by Beverly Glenn Copeland from his now legendary album, Keyboard Fantasies.

Also, there are re-composed Bach Violin Concertos from Swedish violinist Christian Svarfvar, reworked by fellow Swede, the composer Johan Ullén, from their record, Infinite Bach. Such baroque stylings inevitably lead to Max Richter’s Four Seasons Re-Composed, and the work of Vivaldi, re-imagined. Plus, there’s a reflection on William Byrd's Renaissance-era setting of the hymn “Ave verum corpus” by British composer Roderick Williams, where the voices of ORA Singers are deployed as three separate choirs, and more. -Caryn Havlik
