It’s an hour of pieces featuring wind instruments, featuring a groovy suite from Windsync by American composer Marc Mellits, spacey music from avant-garde klezmer clarinetist Glenn Dickson, and music from London-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Akusmi.
From a 2022 record by the Texas-based quintet WindSync, hear the world premiere recording of Apollo (2019) by Marc Mellits, a set of groovy post-minimalist miniatures written for the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Also, listen to quintet music for the Armenian wind instrument, the duduk.
Plus, new music with saxophone by London based composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Akusmi, aka Pascal Bideau. Listen to his organic blend of Steve Reich-like minimalism with its repetitive rhythmic patterns, spiritual jazz in the vein of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and electronic dance music.
Also, hear spacey symphonic layerings by avant-Klezmer clarinetist Glen Dickson (Naftule's Dream, Shirim), for clarinet and digital processing, in a work called “Lost Memories”, and more. – Caryn Havlik
