It’s an hour of ambient music with artists using instruments in ways that play against type. Listen to the bowed harp of Sarah Pagé, the chamber music ensemble S t a r g a z e, and the ambient country trio SUSS.
Hear music by Montréal’s exploratory harpist Sarah Pagé from a forthcoming album, Voda, of dance pieces about water. Listen to “Meduses,” a graceful piece about jellyfish, which uses bowed harp, cello, and bass. Then, there’s ‘ambient country music’ by New York band SUSS, that makes atmospheric use of pedal steel guitar, and could evoke the feeling of spending a night under the stars in the American Southwest in the desert.
Listen also to music from the Nashville duo Hammock, and electric guitar-based sweeping post-rock grandeur, which may also have a sense of darkness and euphoria. Plus, work from the chamber ensemble S t a r g a z e, whose 2022 release, One, is a remotely recorded orchestral suite, composed by Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Nik Colk Void (Factory Floor / Carter Tutti Void), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Arone Dyer (Buke+Gase) and Aart Strootman (S t a r g a z e).
