New York, NY —
Caroline Kennedy has called a raft of New York elected officials to express her interest in being selected for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein reports.
Kennedy was once so intensely private that she regularly denied interview requests while working to raise funds for New York City public schools.
But now she's thrusting herself into the limelight by all but announcing publicly her interest in joining the senate. Yesterday she called Gov. David Paterson, Sen. Charles Schumer and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, among others.
She also hired Josh Isay a political consultant who has worked for Schumer, Mayor Bloomberg. Manhattan Congresswoman Caroline Maloney has also hired a consultant, Bill Lynch, who is close to Paterson. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein.
