The Bloomberg Administration has released results from a first-ever survey of how New Yorkers feel about their city and the quality of municipal services. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.
The survey of close to 25,000 households says as much about the City as it does about the people that call it home. 42 percent confess they're unprepared for an emergency like a blizzard or hurricane.
The same percentage thinks the City does poorly at spending taxpayer money wisely. And as for the City's 311 complaint line, most respondents say calling it doesn't solve their problem. Parents were far more optimistic about public schools, with 85 percent giving the system a passing grade.
New Yorkers rank neighborhood satisfaction with the FDNY services highest, EMS in second, and police in third place. Of all the five boroughs, Staten Islanders feel most content with their current location. The most dissatisfied borough is the Bronx.
The City plans to use the survey results to identify where it can improve performance and deliver services more economically.
