But Sergeant First Class Holoway says he doesn't need all the pomp and circumstance, just a little appreciation.
HOLOWAY: To have somebody with the negativity the way it is - at a high-with the war situation -to hear one person walk by and say thank you for what you do - makes up for the whole week.
REPORTER: Holoway has served in the Army for eighteen years. He fought in both Iraq wars, as well as Somalia, Haiti, and Bosnia. He plans to spend Veteran's day resting.
Meanwhile, officials broke ground on a new home for veterans in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. Sherryl Noble, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan says 60 percent of the housing will be for recent veterans who are homeless.
NOBLE: I constantly run into folks who are homeless. It's a long homeless population that comes back and forth to the VA, folks really need somewhere to go. They do and now we have a whole 'nother group of folks that are gonna become homeless.
REPORTER: The Jericho project is the first of two housing projects in the works that will house New York's veterans.
