Congestion Plan Supporters Speak Up

The plan to charge drivers entering certain areas in Manhattan has a lot of detractors, especially in the outer boroughs. But now, Mayor Bloomberg's congestion pricing plan has received some support.

REPORTER: Seven members of the city council say they're open to the proposal, if the city can provide more express bus service into Manhattan. Councilman John Liu says commuters should be guaranteed a 30-minute ride and a $4 ticket price.

LIU: Express service has been decimated substantially to the point where service today is a fraction of what it was just 5 years ago. We need to not only restore the service to what it was 5 years ago, but expand on it. Because express service is a way to get people out of their cars and into mass transit.

REPORTER: Liu, alongside fellow council members, also called for high-speed ferry service into Manhattan and greater access to commuter rail lines.
