Congestion Pricing May Cut Manhattan Traffic

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is talking about charging motorists more money to drive into heavily congested parts of Manhattan as a way to reduce traffic.

The mayor is expected to make it one of several proposals he'll unveil on Sunday in the city's plan for long-term sustainability.

The concept of charging fees to cut down on traffic is being tried in various ways around the country, with support from city planners and environmentalists.

The best known program is in London, where officials say charging drivers has helped relieve congestion. But the fee - equal to about $16 dollars - has gone up since it began in 2003.
