New York, NY —
New York’s top judge says it's disgraceful that state judges haven't had a pay increase for almost a decade.
REPORTER: Chief Judge Judith Kaye has threatened to sue the Executive and Legislative branches of government for not raising salaries in the recently approved budget.
KAYE: That for more than 8 years, longer than any other judges in America. Likely longer than any other workers in any field, New York state judges for no reason other than Albany politics have been denied even a cost of living adjustment to their salaries.
REPORTER: Kaye says her past experience as a government lawyer prepares her to represent the judiciary branch in a lawsuit. Kaye will ask Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli if she can raise the salaries herself.
