Bloomberg Assembles Supporters of his School Reforms

Mayor Bloomberg assembled dozens of supporters of his school restructuring in a show of force against his critics. A number of parent associations at schools around the city have passed resolutions against his reforms.

REPORTER: But he said the real problem was with the teachers union, which wants to maintain the status quo.

BLOOMBERG: I think you can see them out there all the time - Number One, there's the UFT, you want to go after somebody, that's as good an example as anything. All they want to do is roll it back.

REPORTER: The Mayor and Chancellor Klein say the success of the reforms was borne out by higher scores and graduation rates, better salaries for teachers and better funding for schools with black and Latino students.
