This week, some 380 million eggs were recalled nationwide, after being linked to a salmonella outbreak. On Friday, a second farm in Iowa, Hillandale, said it would recall at least 170 million additional eggs. Federal health officials say the two recalls are related.
According to the FDA, hundreds of people across the country have reported illnesses linked to the outbreak. Eggs shipped after May 16 under the brand names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lunc, Dutch Farms and Kemps are affected.
The FDA says the eggs were distributed to fourteen states. Those include California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, Washington, Oregon and Nevada.
