Scottie Pippen, 'Ferguson Rises' Documentary, Musician Christian McBride, Local Events, Big Apple Circus

Chicago Bulls’ Scottie Pippen argues with referee Bill Oakes after he was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter after throwing the ball at Oakes during game two of the NBA Eastern Conference.

Six-time NBA Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Scottie Pippen joins us to discuss his new memoir with Michael Arkush, Unguarded. The book takes readers through Pippen’s childhood and his career with the Chicago Bulls, setting the record straight on what it was like to play every day with Michael Jordan, and describing how he feels he should have received more respect from the Bulls’ management. 

Michael Brown Jr.'s death in Ferguson, Missouri is considered to be the founding moment of the modern Black Lives Matter movement. But behind the protests and calls for change in response to ongoing police brutality, there are still grieving families to whom closure is no option. A new PBS documentary, "Ferguson Rises," follows the life of Michael Brown Sr. in the aftermath of his son's death in 2014, and his effort to seek justice for the killing. Director Mobolaji Olambiwonnu and Michael Brown Sr. himself speak to us about the film, which airs on PBS on November 8. 

The Movement Revisited: A Musical Portrait of Four Icons is a full-length work for jazz orchestra composed by renowned bassist Christian McBride, honoring leaders of the civil rights movement. Originally composed in 1998, the piece was released on an album in early 2020. On November 11, as part of the TD James Moody Jazz Festival at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, McBride will lead a performance of the work. He comes on to preview it.
