
Historian Victoria Johnson discusses her book American Eden: David Hosack, Botany, and Medicine in the Garden of the Early Republic. Johnson tells the story of Dr. David Hosack, Alexander Hamilton's family doctor, who was also a brilliant surgeon, pioneering thinker and world-class botanist. Hosack built the Republic’s first botanical garden in 1810, on twenty acres of Manhattan farmland.
