Gunfire and explosions were reported at a casino resort in Manila on Thursday. Amateur video captured by witnesses showed frightened people running and screaming from the Resorts World Manila in the Philippine capital.

Early reports from the Site Intelligence Group, which monitors extremist propaganda and communication online, indicated that the Filipino branch of the Islamic State said that "lone wolf soldiers" were responsible.

The incident followed what has been weeks of fighting against terrorist groups allied with ISIS in the southern part of the country. Filipino President Rodrigo Dutere declared martial law on the southern island of Mindanao in response.

Aurora Almendral, a reporter and radio producer based in Manila, was on the scene yesterday at Resorts World and brings us the latest.
