Composer, performer, producer, and inventor of the mutantrumpet, Ben Neill, presents music from his project "Manitoga" for this New Sounds program. "Manitoga" is a new environmental composition for mutantrumpet, a hybrid electro-acoustic instrument, and a 8-piece brass ensemble of Carol Szymanski’s “phonemophones” bugles, each of which forms a letter of the alphabet in a font of her design. (The horns used are the letters in the word MANITOGA.) Neill’s mutantrumpet will act as the controller for processing the other instruments along with sounds of the environment. The work receives its premiere on Saturday, July 26 on the grounds that share its name: Manitoga, the estate of the 20th-century industrial designer Russell Wright.
