Bonus Weekend Podcast: John McCain

Senator John Kerry and Senator John McCain during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Monday, Dec. 3, 2102, on a disabilities treaty

Earlier this week, John McCain’s office announced that when the Arizona Senator went through eye surgery, doctors discovered that he had brain cancer. In an era of extreme and bitter partisanship in Congress, there was an outpouring of support from members of both parties wishing Senator McCain a speedy recovery. Former President Obama wrote on twitter “John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I've ever known. Cancer doesn't know what it's up against. Give it hell, John.” And Senator John Kerry tweeted “I love Senator John McCain. Unbeatable, unbreakable. He's Teddy Roosevelt's "man in the arena" even when we're on opposite sides. God bless.”

For this week’s Bonus Weekend Podcast, we’ve decided to revisit a conversation we had with the Arizona Senator back in 2000, when he came on our show to talk about his time as a POW in Vietnam, his time in the Senate, and his first presidential campaign.
