Warren Peck and Bill Di Morrow pick a part of New York City each week and dramatize it for your education and amusement. This episode takes the listener on a tour through Central Park.
Ross Michant and Paul Talbot walk to central park while ribbing each other about neighborhoods and baseball teams. They talk to a musician playing the hurdy-gurdy, named Robert Muro, about immigrating to the US and playing with the New York Symphony Orchestra.
They point out a few sights such as Cleopatra's Needle, the Zoo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Maine Monument and the Museum of Natural History. Then they run into a botanical enthusiast named Miss Minerva who gives a few facts about the park.
The announcer offers an Around New York booklet, "which lists in concise and readable form the places that are the high spots around New York," to listeners who send a self-addressed and stamped envelope.

The. Town. That afternoon once again your station brings the town a program written about New Yorkers and for New Yorkers by Warren PAC and Bill to morrow every Saturday these two young writers of W. N.Y.C. visit some place around town and then dramatize it for your education amusement. Let's go to fifty seventh Street and says that you know where we find it and Ross Marshawn are two city guys about to take us on a tour through Central Park. Bring. Something to me or I can see that. So you know we almost up to Central Park now a woman what kind of a New Yorker are you anyhow but you know that Central Park starts at fifty ninth Street but this is fifty seventh Street and I still can't say oh that's terrible maybe they moved you never can tell I never thought I'd live to see the day when the aquarium would be moved up to the broccoli right there pretty soon they'll be moving Ebbets Field to New Jersey which by the way wouldn't be a bad idea boy those Flatbush blue jean is that snowy Well where did your Yankees finish last year and what happened to Charlie Ruff listen nobody on the Yanks throws up watermelons like old hot potato Hamelin he pitches and dumps and it's a lucky thing that we've reached the park so I won't answer you not. Look look look where is she no no no look agreement league amazing I always thought that you Brooklynites never saw grass or green trees and now I'm sure just because you live in the last outpost the civilization great smear of Flatbush sorry old man quite alright so this is Central Park or us who is that it's your announcer What do you want we're on the air what you fellows say something besides So this is Central Park or so this is Podunk yet I know allied with it what do you think of that guy what nerve Oh come on let's go into the park. Smell that air and listen to that. Quiet Mr No boys calling me hey look don't bring him into this you have the strangest friends all say I hope you're not offended by us yeah yeah I guess you not being us but it's been so long since I've seen or heard the man that I thought I'd like to ask you a few questions for the radio audience I hear speak and hear what should I say how Here's a novel beginning what you name it all bad mojo How long have you worked with this hurdy gurdy let me see I know all about just about thirty is about since nine hundred twelve you mean to say that you've been listening to that so-called music for thirty years sure and you've got to get some kind of a medal for that will you like to hear music well we don't want to trouble you it's no trouble at all here I'll play the way we have a few more questions to ask you how long have you been here at this spot Yes I'm here in Central Park or do you go to different places oh yeah during the summer and spring months I'm hit all the time how about the window what do you do then I work in the symphony orchestra you know what the symphony you you mean that you work in a symphony orchestra a real honest to goodness symphony not right you don't play this this instrument there do you know I play the violin You're quite a talented fellow violin in a symphony but why do you do this sort of thing you need the money No You see I never take any money with and what's the idea you're not a writer and all A You see I was born in Utah and when I was ten I came over here with my father my mother died on the way old oh that was too bad yes I never got to hold it you see I've never quite forgotten the things I went through over there and when I came here I looked Todd I learned how to play the violin I got a good job I got family but I kept thinking of the kids over there and the kids healthy. It sold every summer I come out here and play these hundred goodie I'd like to make these kids a little hot because it warms my heart to see their little faces light up you're a pretty swell guy. Thank you oh well I guess I'd better be going I've still got to go to the settlement house I'm giving a concept on the violin that this afternoon oh well don't let us keep you goodbye and thanks for your help. On a good. Day I wonder if he was pulling our leg and he's probably more sincere than a lot of other people we know don't get philosophical on me and we came here to see the park and tell the people about it so let's get going all right a look at Cleopatra's Needle I'm more interested in Nero's Federal I'm not joking I mean that tol'able Let's go over there why don't you say so it's beautiful isn't it just a pile of rocks you know Arabic all over the thing are a big nothing that's a gypsy an Arabic a Gyptian was it matter we can't read it anyhow what it says it tells the story of Cleopatra's life from her birth through her suicide and you're going to have to stop reading books you're getting too smart so come on let's get moving Ah there's the place for you what is it those who want to stop in and see how your relatives are getting along very funny very funny let's see if your oncle is finished hibernating we'll drop the whole matter and what's that up ahead all the Metropolitan Museum of but so yeah it certainly looks big from this side where are we now anyhow about a third or eighty fourth Street where you say we call off the heel so wait a while there's a lake right over here you can sit down there say by the way I meant to ask you what's that tall column over there where to the south southwest see right through and Central Park West Oh that's the memorial to the sailors who went down with the Maine Republicans they have some metal there from the battleship itself well how come I thought that it blew up so I salvaged the wreckage about one thousand. Hundred they melted down some of the metal for the column you know there's another one just like in Havana there is and around it they have some of the original guns from the main I like to go there someday we could have a programme about it if we got our expenses paid a fine chance. So you know this must be the lake that you were talking about and here's a bench park the body. Feels good you see that building over there that's where they have dancing and concerts in the summer months now this isn't the mall is it now that's further downtown there's not much water and it's like is there a must have been some swell skating here during the winter yet I came here a couple of times to watch of course not to skate that must have been good and I want us all black and blue I'll have you know that I'm considered a fine figure skater Oh Oh come now I certainly am at that time all right so I fell down a few times that's about it so I meant to ask you who gave the city that Cleopatra needle the former I should say the late decade of of Egypt when was that in one nine hundred seventy or eight hundred seventy two I think it was you must have been pretty tall to use such a needle Yeah I'm right it was a good attempt I'm glad you think so. I'm rested now let's continue our stroll Well we go let's cut across the park All right. OK. You say Ross is not the Museum of Natural History over there yes Paul you can see the top of it over the tree see over there yeah. Here it is see my goodness holy smokes and it's just that Daisy Oh what a Reyes this you certainly are that. Say did you boys know that this park runs fifty one blocks in length did you know that it's almost one quarter of Manhattan No we didn't but we sure do now and that it covers eight hundred and forty acres the know what do you think of that pole eight hundred forty eight MAN OH MAN eight hundred forty eight zero zero zero. Zero. Zero zero what's wrong you crazy we're on the air oh oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh. Oh. Oh.
