Former head of one of NYC's biggest shelter operators pleads guilty

The former head of one of New York City's biggest homeless shelter operators has pled guilty to bribery.

Victor Rivera is the founder and former head of the Bronx Parent Housing Network. The nonprofit's website says it manages more than $70 million dollars in contracts from the city to offer housing and services at more than 80 building sites. He's expected to face prison time and forfeit more than a million dollars.

A New York Times investigation last year exposed financial wrongdoing, as well as allegations of sexual misconduct against Rivera. He has denied the sexual misconduct, and was not charged, though his organization paid out a combined $175-thousand dollars in settlements.

Reporter Amy Julia Harris broke the story. She spoke with WNYC's Morning Edition host Michael Hill.
